About The Club
The IMC is a non-profit organisation that has a history going back over seventy years with around 300 members who engage in all aspects of mountaineering and rock-climbing.
The Club organises climbing, hill-walking and social events all year round for its members as well as encouraging members to organise their own activities. We run training activities as needed for groups of members, including the very popular New Members Programme commencing in April each year. We own a climbers’ hut in the Wicklow Mountains where members can stay overnight and which can be used for various events.
Prospective members are welcome to join in our regular Thursday night social events without obligation. For information about joining the IMC, please click here.
The Club’s Constitution can be found here.
Many of our Committee members can be met in person at our Thursday night climbing or social meets.

CONTACTING IMC MEMBERS
There are a few ways to contact the IMC membership as a whole.
- Since you’re here already, the handiest option for members is to use this site’s forum.
(If you’re not an IMC member please contact the Club Secretary.
- Alternatively, turn up at our social meets on Thursday evenings and spread the word! During the summer (roughly April to September) we climb in Dalkey Quarry often retiring to a Dalkey pub after. In winter we meet at the Teacher’s Club (see below).
- To get an announcement or article published in the IMC Newsletter, which is distributed to all IMC members. Send your contributions to our Publicity Officer at [email protected]
The Teachers Club
Most Thursday nights during the winter months, roughly September to April, IMC members meet at the Teachers Club, Parnell Square West in Dublin city centre for a slideshow and a social drink.
The slideshows are presented by IMC members or guest presenters and cover a wide range of topics, mostly reports of climbing/mountaineering trips, but also other subjects of interest to a mountaineering audience. Our presenters over the years have included most of the big names in Irish mountaineering.
Normally, we meet in the bar first, then have the slideshow in a comfortable meeting room upstairs. When that’s finished, it’s time for more drinks and chat! The usual time is 9pm in the bar, with the slideshow at 9.15 sharp.
The slideshows are free of charge, and everybody with an interest in mountaineering is welcome to join in – you don’t have to be a member of the IMC.
How To Get There
The Teachers Club (Club na Múinteoirí) is at 36 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1, uphill from the Sinn Féin offices. There is a brass plate on the heavy blue door, saying Club na Múinteoirí. The bar is upstairs.
Lots of cross-town buses stop nearby, and there are railings outside the door to chain your bike to. There is free parking just across the street, but it can often be hard to find space.
