SUMMARY:Dal Riada Climbing Club - Fairhead Meet 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Fairhead Climbing Meet is organised by the Dal Riada Climbing Club\, hosted by the McBride family and supported by Mountaineering Ireland. The aim of the meet is to bring the climbing community together to enjoy the world class climbing at Fairhead in Co. Antrim. \nThe Meet is a weekend-long event\, typically climbers arrive on the Friday afternoon and climb on Saturday\, Sunday & Monday. The meet is open to all climbers who have the skills\, knowledge and experience to be able to climb at Fairhead – both on trad routes and boulders. \nThe bouldering is relatively accessible (many groups out and crash pads out)\, but in terms of the trad climbing it’s advisable to be comfortable climbing VS+. \nIn recent years there have also been two climbing talks\, one on Friday evening and one on Saturday evening\, usually starting around 9:00pm. The cost of entry to the talks is covered by your ticket. Camping is generously provided on the McBride family farm\, the cost of which is covered by your ticket. SUMMARY:Cruit Island – Island in the Sun (We Keep Coming Back and So Should You)
DESCRIPTION:Cruit Island is one of those places that gets under your skin. Wave-washed granite\, sea cliffs\, boulders\, the odd seal judging you from below — and routes for everyone from absolute beginner to seasoned trad climber. Yes\, it can take five hours from Dublin. Yes\, it is absolutely worth it. \nAccess is via a bridge (no boats\, no swimming with your rack)\, and if you’re very lucky you might spot Iain Miller — who wrote the guidebook — actually out on the rock. The man is practically part of the geology at this point. Download his guide before you go. \nWith 9 or 10 crags to choose from\, there’s genuinely something for every level. Complete beginners can get their eye in at the outdoor climbing wall or on the Minor Tridents. Those looking for their first trad lead will find plenty of friendly routes to build confidence on. And for those further up the grades\, the likes of Best Poss Taste\, Safe & Sound\, and the iconic Cruit Crack are waiting. Some people even venture around the corner to One Move Wonder and discover there are\, in fact\, multiple ways to deal with the one move. \nThe tides run the show\, so keep an eye on them — but that just means you rotate around the crags as the day goes on\, which keeps things interesting. \nCamping is right at the crags\, right on the beach\, with the landowner’s blessing. No facilities\, no running water\, just location\, location\, location — and if previous trips are anything to go by\, marshmallows over a BBQ under a van awning while a storm rolls in. LNT principles apply. Camping location here. \nNot a camper? No problem: \n\nCarey’s Viking House Hotel — right where the Cruit road meets the coast road. Pauline does group rates. The food is genuinely superb.\n\nThe nearest pub and food on the island is the golf course — a 20-30 minute walk from camp. Just long enough to justify a second pint. \nPrevious attendees have described the weekend as everything from “amazing” to the kind of trip where you lead something you swore you wouldn’t\, halfway up it\, and somehow it all works out. First-timers\, nervous leaders\, seasoned climbers — everyone leaves happy. \nCome. The rock is sticky and the craic is mighty.

DESCRIPTION:Join for a weekend of sport climbing on beautiful Inis Mór in the Aran Islands (Oileáin Árann)! \nThere are two cliff areas – Point Fiain & Aill an Ára Thiar – which have been bolted over the last several years and now boast over 70 sport climbs from 5a upwards – Inis Mor Sport Climbing Guide Book \nThe walk in/cycle is about 30-40 minutes from the harbour\, access the cliffs by 10m abseil onto a large sea ledge. To exit\, a jumar or prussik is necessary to ascend the ab rope (companions can also be belayed up from above\, once someone has ascended). \nAmbrose Flynn’s Blog Post for First Timers \nWild camping is no longer allowed on the Island. You can camp at Aran Islands Camping which offers toilets\, showers\, and kitchen facilities (book in advance)\, at Kiloran Hostel\, or a number of B&Bs. \nThere are two ferry options from Rossaveel with Aran Island Ferries\, or Doolin with The Doolin Ferry Company. It is advisable to book a ferry ticket in advance online. \nThere is a Spar and several pubs offering food on the Island. The main transport is by bike\, which you can rent at the harbour or bring across on the ferry. If the weather gets a bit wet there are many tourist attractions including the wormhole (Poll na bPeist)\, the prehistoric Dún Aonghasa clifftop fort\, and the not to be missed craggy island caravan from Father Ted. \nAtendees should be competent at outdoor sport climbing grade 5a upwards\, and know how to ascend a rope safely. \nKit: helmet\, rope\, quickdraws\, carabiners\, slings\, mallion\, shoes\, harness\, belay device\, and rope ascender (at least one between each group of climbers)

DESCRIPTION:Inside Hayes Adit\nBored with the surface of Wicklow Mountains? \nThis is your opportunity to explore beneath them.  Get up close and personal with\, and below\, the industrial/mining heritage of Glendasan.  Ed has organised a guided trip into Hayes Adit (part of mine complex in the valley) to whet pre-bbq whistles. \nA sporting trip\, with plenty to see. Local mineralogy and geomorphology by Nick. \nCommon sense will be provided by Jill in this case.😀 \nInside wet adit\nThe adit is wet\, and water levels vary from waist to armpit deep\, to ankle\, so; \n\nWetsuit required.\nWellies\,\nGloves\nHelmet with light (fully charged!).\nBack-up light (also fully charged!!).\nNo harm to have a cagoule or similar.\nMars Bar + water.\n\nHut briefing 12.00 – Depart 13.00 – Back 17.00 \nWill have experienced cavers and mining heritage types along for guidance. \nAlthough it is a recently worked (1950’s)\, and stable (enough) mine we like to keep things safe (ish)…. so max 15 lucky members … don’t all rush at once! \nParking Because of the barbecue there will be NO PARKING at the Hut. We have permission from the Conway family to park in their field. Please use the entrance just above the Hut and turn right through the first gateway at the bottom of the hill. \nBBQ-Parking\n

DESCRIPTION:Join for some sea cliff climbing in Dún na mBó\, Co. Mayo! \nThere are over 50 routes ranging from VD to HVS. Suitable for beginners but you must be able to set up anchors and be able to abseil. There will be a few of us there who can help out if needed. All the climbs are an easy walk over good ground. \nScotchport is the best place for camping and campervans\, no facilities but it’s flat and beside the beach. \nBelmullet is also not too far away
