Tuesday Summertime Meets – Bouldering at Portrane
May 29 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
With the long warm evenings settling in the IMC will kick-start its Tuesday summertime outings with some bouldering at Portrane. Eoin Rafter is our host for this meet and all of the necessary details are listed below.
Portrane is easy to get to (2 mins from the car), in a stunning location looking across Dublin bay and has problems of all grades (4+ to 8a).
Description from the Irish bouldering guide:
“The bouldering in Portrane is steep – on mini-cliffs and narrow alleys – with powerful moves between relatively low-friction, sea-polished slopers and edges. It’s a change from the technical style of Wicklow granite and the weather tends to be better. The best time to go is about two hours before low tide, as most of the problems have been out of the water for a few hours. A cloth is very handy to clean sand off your shoes.”
Low tide is at 6pm on the 29th so timing could not be better.
Plan is to meet at the car park at 6pm and stroll down to ground zero for a start, from there we can explore the other coves as we go.
