Having made the last-minute decision in McDonaghs on a Thursday night to travel to Dingle the following day, I was a little apprehensive about how my first climbing weekend would pan out. My concerns were short-lived however, as the weather was terrific all weekend which meant idyllic long days climbing and the odd sun-burned limb.

The sea cliffs at Doonsheane merited a full days attention. There is nothing quite like the sensation of reaching the top of a climb and spending a few moments watching the dolphins at play below. Sunday was spent climbing on the Great Blasket Island with the occasional dip in the clear waters to cool off. A visit to a crag in the Gap of Dunloe on the way home was a excellent way to round off the weekend. If this is what climbing is all about, I’m hooked.
