Role and scope of work for IMC auditors
The purpose of the auditor role in the IMC is to ensure that basic good governance is followed to protect the assets of the club including money, equipment and buildings, to ensure that key risks are appropriately managed and to ensure that decision making on important issues is carried out in accordance with the club constitution.
Specifically the auditors:
- Confirm that the accounts for the year are accurate and that the information provided is adequate to deliver the above objectives
- Identify major risks including governance related risks that may impact the club and ensure that these are adequately addressed through insurance or other methods, and that all conditions are met to ensure that insurance etc is fully valid.
- Assess financial processes in general to ensure that these are adequate to ensure that club funds are protected and that compliance requirements can be easily met
- Seek to ensure that such best practise processes are carried over smoothly between committees.
- Assess other procedures where relevant such as AGM voting procedures; any other major decision making processes; handover procedures between committees
From time to time other good governance issues may arise whereby the auditors should advise the committee of the time to amend processes to address these.
The auditors will liaise with the committee and request information as appropriate. However the auditors report directly to the AGM.
They should provide assurance to the AGM that the accounts are accurate, risks are addressed and good governance is in place. In the event that this assurance cannot be provided this must be notified ideally in advance of but otherwise at the AGM .
