Donegal Climbfest April 29-May 1st
April 29, 2022 - May 1, 2022

After a two year Covid gap, the Climbfest in Donegal is set to resume in 2022. The venue is the campsite and community centre at Maghery, Dungloe in the north west of the county. There are a limited number of electrical hook ups and toilets, and food will be available in the centre. There is a beach and even a welcoming pub nearby, and of course lots of climbing within a short drive. To the south are the cliffs of Crohy Head, (<5 min drive from campsite) where the Columcille crew will have set up bottom ropes on a variety of routes, and to the north are the numerous granite routes on Cruit (great for beginners ca 30 min by car) ), and possibly a trip out to the amazing Owey Island, weather permitting. Inland, the Bingorms are not far away, and there are lots of kayak opportunities to the amazing Bristi stack, or even Aranmore Island.
The date for your diary is 29th April to 2nd May. The camping venue, and Cruit Island, are very family friendly, but Crohy Head much less so. This is the longest running Climbing event in Ireland, having started in 2005, in Culdaff. Since that it has been in Culdaff eight times, Glencolmcille twice, Cruit twice, Malinbeg once, and Malin Head once. This event is ideal for beginners, the less committed climber, possibly those with families, or those who have only used indoor climbing walls.
