Annual IMC BBQ at Glendalough

August 6, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm

The IMC Hut

The IMC BBQ is back after a 2 year covid-induced hiatus – Get ready for a full days climbing or hiking at Glendalough followed by a fun evening BBQ at the Hut, the BBQ is great craic and a fantastic way to meet other members of the club. Anyone who is attending the event is welcome to stay in the hut or camp in the grounds and plenty of parking is available courtesy of our neighbours, the Conway family.

Ed Hick has kindly offered to organise the 2022 IMC Annual BBQ, food will be provided however you will need to bring your own drink (alcoholic or otherwise), if you plan on attending it is important that you register for the event as soon as possible so that we have an idea of the numbers. Alo let us know if you prefer a vegetarian option.

You can register below or by joining the whatsapp group via the link published on the main IMC whatsapp group.

If you are going to camp or stay overnight in the hut bunks are limited & will be on a first come first served basis, so it might be an idea to bring a small tent as a back up option

Ed is planning a fantastic spread, menu as follows:

Welcome Bellini

Mixed Gourmet Pork Sausages served on soft white roll with balsamic red onions and condiments

Pulled pork with a whiskey glaze served in Pitta pockets

Spicy Jerk chicken thighs on coconut basmati rice

Mixed Leaf  Green Salad

Slow Braised Italian style Porchetta with fennel

Smoky BBQ Beans

CYO Griddle bread with rosemary and garlic

Raspberry Fool

Strawberries with vinegar

70% Cocoa Chocolate with Port

TYO Marshmallows

Bring your own Booze

There is a contribution of €10.00 per person for anyone attending to cover the cost of the food etc which can be paid to Pierse (hut warden) on the night

Help- Volunteers Required
Many hands make light work, It’s a club night , so all help will be gratefully received. Food will be served from 7pm, but prep will be underway from midday, so if you can spare a few hours in the afternoon to help out that would be great. There will be help needed for set-up, chairs, benches, decoration , firewood, clean-up etc etc

Leave-No-Trace
We like to operate the Hut as a whole and the BBQ in particular on a zero-waste strategy where possible, but always on a leave no trace basis. We’d ask you to ensure you bring all of your own, and some of the combined waste away. It’s really important that we as a club lead by example, and as the only hut owners in Wicklow, let’s set that at a level to be proud of in the National Park.

Parking
There is limited parking next door (tbc), but carpooling where possible should always be the preferred option (for the craic, as well as the climate) The laneway will be blocked, but there will be space to pull in 1-2 cars to unload gear early in the day.

Refrigeration/ Kitchen/ Food
There will be no space in the fridge for beers until all of the food is cooked ( 9.30ish), so bring them chilled, and a small bucket or similar* with ice per car.
(*There will be a prize on the night for the most interesting interpretation of this!)

Because of the numbers and the set up, access to the kitchen will be patchy until the food is cooked, we will ask for volunteers to help , and we are always glad of willing hands. There will be much washing, clearing and cleaning to be done on the night, and the following morning, so please allow some time before departure to help out.
Food will be served from 7-9.30, after that you are on your own!
