Inis Mór – Sport Climbing Meet

Join for a weekend of sport climbing on beautiful Inis Mór in the Aran Islands (Oileáin Árann)!

There are two cliff areas – Point Fiain & Aill an Ára Thiar – which have been bolted over the last several years and now boast over 70 sport climbs from 5a upwards – Inis Mor Sport Climbing Guide Book

The walk in/cycle is about 30-40 minutes from the harbour, access the cliffs by 10m abseil onto a large sea ledge. To exit, a jumar or prussik is necessary to ascend the ab rope (companions can also be belayed up from above, once someone has ascended).

Wild camping is no longer allowed on the Island. You can camp at Aran Islands Camping which offers toilets, showers, and kitchen facilities (book in advance), at Kiloran Hostel, or a number of B&Bs.

There are two ferry options from Rossaveel with Aran Island Ferries, or Doolin with The Doolin Ferry Company. It is advisable to book a ferry ticket in advance online.

There is a Spar and several pubs offering food on the Island. The main transport is by bike, which you can rent at the harbour or bring across on the ferry. If the weather gets a bit wet there are many tourist attractions including the wormhole (Poll na bPeist), the prehistoric Dún Aonghasa clifftop fort, and the not to be missed craggy island caravan from Father Ted.

Atendees should be competent at outdoor sport climbing grade 5a upwards, and know how to ascend a rope safely.

Kit: helmet, rope, quickdraws, carabiners, slings, mallion, shoes, harness, belay device, and rope ascender (at least one between each group of climbers)
