Malin Head Trad Climbing Weekend

September 13 @ 8:00 am - September 15 @ 5:00 pm

Malin Head area has crags scattered all about the place, all over Inishowen, which is “nearly an island”, the whole thing accessed through a narrow neck of land at a place called Derry (or thereabouts).  IMC hasn’t been there as such in recent times, but the annual Donegal Climbfest organised by local Colmcille Climbers attracts all comers, and this year is based at Mayday where we will base in September.  We will be sending undercover operatives on a scouting mission.  More detail later in the summer.

Venue of choice is a campsite, located in the field behind the Seaview Tavern https://www.seaviewtavern.ie/.  The Seaview also does B&B, seafood restaurant, full breakfast, and the odd pint.  The set-up is rather like an modern day version of 1960s Jack Walsh’s in Glencar.  I have always brought a bicycle when visiting Inishowen which is quite compact.  Shops, petrol and other facilities within walking distance.  Swimming beach right below the Tavern.

Google Maps for the Seaview https://www.google.com/maps/place/Seaview+Tavern/@55.3672422,-7.3332977,17z/data=!4m9!3m8!1s0x488aac991b3c20e3:0xe607fa78bac223ee!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d55.3672432!4d-7.3311981!16s%2Fg%2F1vyk22qm?entry=ttu.

The 2023 Climbfest was based at Culdaff some miles away and attached is the climbing guide used on the occasion.  Enjoy ………..
