MIKE O’ SHEA – THE ICE PROJECT (Himalayan Stove Project fundraiser)
March 10, 2016
€5On Thursday, the 10th of March, Mike O’Shea will be presenting a fascinating talk on The Ice Project, in conjunction with a fundraising event for a very good cause.
Mike is an adventurer from Kerry and is one of the first people in Ireland to gain the Gold Gaisce Presidents Award. He has climbed extensively in the Alps and internationally and was a volunteer in Kerry Mountain Rescue for 10 years.
Mike hasn’t reserved his enthusiasm for just climbing and mountaineering, he is a keen paraglider and paramotorist, and was one of the first people to paramotor across the Irish Sea. He is also a keen skier, and has recently moved on to SpeedFlying to further add to the adventure.
As part of The Ice Project Mike O’ Shea has crossed Lake Baikal in Northern Russia, Chiles North Patagonian Icecap and the Southern Icecap on Kilimanjaro. The summer of 2013 also saw Mike guide seven Irish groups up Kilimanjaro. While in Africa Mike also successfully managed to raise funds for and build an orphanage for local children whose parents died of HIV.
We will charge a €5 entry fee for this slideshow and will have collection buckets on the night to fundraise for the Himalayan Stove project which Mike is an Ambassador of. He has raised over 30K for stoves and the Earth Quake relief.
