New Members Program: Indoor Session Awesome Walls

The schedule for the day is covering some basics from the New Members Training Syllabus /wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IMC-Training2016.pdf in a comfortable environment of Awesome walls , getting us ready for the hopefully fun/sunny outside this coming weekend
Six areas of focus (all are covered in the Syllabus doc) , will have IMC members available to teach(Scout EDGE)

Station1: Belay Skills small slabs:I want everyone to be proficient in V,knee,1,2,3 style of belaying , holding a fall and lowering a climber see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5kTsLaw0Vk
Station2: Knots and Hitches tables opposite coloured Wall downstairs: there are 10 to cover and based on experience you could cover all 10, but like to get everyone proficient with these 3; RE-Threaded Figure of Eight with Stopper Knot, Figure of Eight on the bight and Clove Hitch.(We will cover all and more during the course of the training months )
Station3:Equalizing Anchors coloured Wall using bolts : How to build a powerpoint with two points , and how to tie on to two anchors using the rope in/out of reach
Station4: Top floor Bouldering Mats: Understand the Importance of Warming up and Cooling Down, see video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbuE_ZkTizI , but feel to use whatever your favourite (jumping jacks, burpees, etc) exercise is to get an elevated heart rate going first, before the dynamic stretching.
Station5: Middle Floor Bouldering: Fundamentals of Climbing Movement, See video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EudegwgU3cA
emphasis on good silent footwork in a traverse and centre of gravity/stable base weight transfer and balance on slab, use of straight arms and drop knee/twisting hips closer to wall on overhanging wall
Station6 Awesome Walls Shop: For those that dont have. Need everyone to have harness,belay device,prusik (1.5mx6mm cord for loop), helmet for Sunday (no helmet no climbing)

Hopefully a busy 3+ hours where some of the information will stick. And if it doesn’t, don’t worry, we will go through it many times in the course of the training schedule until it does.
