New Members Programme: Glendalough Weekend
November 11, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - November 13, 2016 @ 5:00 pm
Saturday-Sunday 12th -13th Nov New Members: Glendalough Weekend – IMC Hut Glendassan, Get Together
The last meet of the programme , consider it your graduation
Agenda for the weekend
Friday 7pm head from hut (car pool) to Glendo Bouldering by lamplight (rain dependent)
Bring your head torch, bouldering mat and any LED lamps you might have
we will be looking at the easy circuit/problems for those wondering if bouldering is too hard for them
On the evenings we will be showing videos this year rather than a talk
Neil has given his OK for us (thanks Ben) to show his http://www.neilgresham.com/masterclass-dvds.php
I would encourage anyone interested in pushing their grade to check this out and make a purchase
Also will be showing Ricky Bell’s Through the Green Door videos
Friday night food will be provided by Jon and Ben , so expect to work up a hunger for a very reasonable cost (5euros) provide your own drink or steal it from the fridge in stealthy IMC fashion
(I am sure some people will also fancy a trip out to the pub on Saturday evening )
Saturday morning till late afternoon will be wilderness first Responder training with Enda.
This is a big topic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilderness_First_Responder , but see value in covering injuries expected from a fall, hypothermia and a run through on what should be in a good first aid kit (and how to use it)
Saturday evening head out into the hills with Ambrose for some more Mountain Training
While a significant group will be heading off to the delights of the moonlight challenge , Ambrose will leads us out into the dark on paths untrod by man or beast.Being able to navigate in the hills is an essential skill and a requisite for anyone wishing to become a full member of the club . Bring compass and Wicklow map if you have one.
I expect a bit of a party Saturday night with the moonlighters returning
Sunday will bring climbing or a walk depending on weather and hangover
Note: We (myself and Hugh(Membership officer)) will be looking to get as many members this year pushed through to full members during the weekend.
A selection of the tests that are in the syllabus we will cover again with you, and will be asked to show that you can recreate.
We will use the IMC Hut training wall for this or the crag if the weather permits on sunday
So if we approach you don’t be scared.
Cost for the hut/camping is the normal 5 euros a night
If you want to book a bed let me know and I will add you to the list
Plenty of space for camping behind the hut and sleeping in the “CowShed” for those
Look forward to a good turnout
Jon (Training officer)
