Pinnacle Club Trad W/E, Below Snowdon

May 3 @ 8:00 am - May 6 @ 5:00 pm

Note: This meet is now full. A wait list is being created and if spaces arise you’ll be informed.

We were delighted to welcome the Pinnacle Club last year for the May weekend in Glendalough. It was inspiring to meet such enthusiastic climbers, and to share ropes on our superb Great Gully Ridge, Pine Tree Buttress and Prelude Nightmare. IMC members Sue and Petrina also thoroughly enjoyed a trip over to the clubs AGM and you can read the report here – it was brilliantly organised and the hut is a great resource and similar to our own – but why not check it out, and the brilliant climbing available, for yourself…..

This May BH the Pinnacle Club is hosting us at their Hut in Snowdonia, Wales. Both clubs have reciprocal rights, so hut fees are at members’ rates £12. This hut is exceptionally well-maintained, has a drying room, hot shower and sleeps 20 in the dormitory. This is a mixed meet, all are most welcome!

The plan is to catch the 14:45 Stena  ferry to Holyhead and some of the Pinnacle members will pick about 6 of us up from the ferry, if you don’t want to take a car. Register early to ensure a lift (for about 6 people) and do your bit for the planet! (If anyone would like to extend their stay at the hut either end of the weekend let me know so the hut can be booked for you.)

Irish Ferries sails to Holyhead if you prefer that option but for foot passengers it doesn’t arrive into Holyhead until 00:20.                                                                                                                                  However! Car + passengers can get the 8:05 ferry and climb at Gogarth later that Friday!

There are many fantastic climbing, hiking and scrambling routes to be explored in the area.

Some climbing options are the sea cliffs at Gogarth, beside Holyhead, with atmospheric trad multi-pitch, which are a 40 min drive from the hut.

Spectacular trad climbing at the roadside crags at Tremadog and at Llanberris Pass with stunning views of the mountain sides.

Super hiking up the Snowdon Horseshoe and on the rocky Glydders.

Scrambling options include the North Ridge of Tryfan, the Dolmen Ridge has a 3* scramble and the Carneddau hills which are less rocky than the Glydders but will provide you with more walking.

After all that activity if you don’t fancy cooking at the hut, there’s places 20 mins away to grab a bite to eat in Pen Y Gwryd or Beddgelert.

Likewise if you’re climbing at Gogart, Holyhead Mountain or The Range there’s possibilities to eat in Llanberris or Anglesea.

This promises to be a super weekend without the usual faff of trying to find the crag, or mountain route, but still with plenty of adventure and a chance to challenge ourselves with kindred spirits.
