Snowdonia, MAM Club Hut:
October 22 - October 25
Snowdonia is, without doubt, a paradise for climbers and mountaineers, having, within its bounds, the highest mountains south of the Scottish border. Plus multi-pitch climbs of every grade, on sea-cliffs, valley crags and high mountain crags. Bare, rocky ridges that provide exhilarating scrambles and routes that will go in the wildest of weather. What more could you ask for?
Our base will be the fine, ideally located Glan Dena hut, near the foot of Tryfan, less than an hour’s drive from the Holyhead ferry. The hut can cater for all your needs: it has a splendid kitchen, a common room, washrooms/showers, small dorms and, importantly, an efficient drying room, so you can climb now, dry later.
We will be there for three nights: Fri 22nd – Sun 24th, returning home on Bank Holiday Monday 25th. And the TOTAL cost for the three nights is a paltry €35. That’s €35!
Snowdonia is unique – it is a huge, mountainous, all-weather pitch. In 40 years of holding this meet, we have never come home empty handed. All our climbing will be multi-pitch and we always, always get climbing done, on lovely, squeaky clean routes in all grades from Diff upwards. We have roadside crags, valley crags, mountain crags and sea crags and, if you prefer, there are marvellous, airy scrambles on exposed peaks.
You can shop until you drop for all your climbing gear in Joe Brown’s shops and get 10% off with your club card.
You will need a sleeping bag, pillowcase, tea towel and head torch (the days are short and the nights long).
In fairness to the hut owners, we will need to be on our best behaviour and clean up after each and every meal but that won’t be a problem for a civilised bunch like us.
It makes economic sense, where possible, to fill all seats in the cars travelling over and be careful when booking, as one ferry is faster than the other.
